Valve Guide Boring Machine EMC-2 -

The valve guide boring machine is used to bore holes where valves pass through automotive cylinder heads, leaving them with perfect dimensions and finish. The EMC-2 model from Chinelatto works with holes from Ø0.87 to 1.34 inches (Ø22 to 34mm), which are the most common sizes in car and truck engines. The EMC-2 boring machine accepts workpieces up to 24.6 x 10.3 inches (625 x 262mm) in length and width, boring holes from Ø0.87 to 1.34 inches (Ø22 to 34mm). The motor runs up to 2,500 rpm, where holes up to Ø0.39 inches (Ø10mm) can use maximum rotation, and holes up to Ø0.51 inches (Ø13mm) use up to 1,000 rpm. The tool bar measures Ø0.79 x 43.7 inches (Ø20 x 1.110mm) and supports up to 11 tools simultaneously, with 3.5 inches (90mm) maximum feed.

The EMC-2 works with cylinder heads from passenger cars, SUVs and light trucks that have valve holes between Ø0.87 to 1.34 inches (Ø22 to 34mm). It serves most domestic and imported engines from 1.0 to 3.0 liters. The limit is the physical size of the cylinder head: up to 24.6 inches (625mm) length and 10.3 inches (262mm) width. Very large heavy truck engines may not fit, but practically all light vehicle cylinder heads fit easily.

The manual boring machine like the EMC-2 lets you control speed, feed and tool position by hand, giving more control over the process and using less power. The automatic does everything by itself after programming. Manual is cheaper, simpler to maintain and ideal for smaller machine shops doing varied work. Automatic is more expensive but yields more in series production of many identical parts.

You fix the cylinder head on the machine table, choose the right tool on the tool bar according to the diameter you'll bore. Start the motor to adequate rotation (1,000 or 2,500 rpm depending on the hole), position the tool in the hole and advance slowly until reaching the final dimension. The EMC-2 comes with 40 carbide-tipped tools and dial indicator to measure with precision.

Basic maintenance is cleaning well after use, lubricating the tool bar sliding points and checking if tools are sharp. The EMC-2 is a simple machine, weighs only 220 lb (100kg), so it doesn't give much trouble. Chinelatto offers technical support and replacement parts.
