Surface Grinding Machine for Metallographic Samples RC-310

The machine is used to prepare metallographic samples in laboratory, performing flat surface grinding of metal pieces before analysis. The RC-310 has square grinding capacity of 6.3x6.3 inches (160x160mm) and maximum rectangular capacity of 23.6x1.0 inches (600x25mm). Maximum height between wheel and base is 11.8 inches (300mm). It comes equipped with 5hp grinding wheel motor running at 3,500rpm, cooling system with 4.0 gal (15L) reservoir and magnetic fixation. Total installed power is 5.12hp at 220V three-phase voltage. These specifications cover most metallographic sample preparation needs in laboratory.

The machine accepts any metal sample that fits on the 6.3x6.3 inches (160x160mm) magnetic table with maximum height of 11.8 inches (300mm). It works with pieces of cast iron, steel, aluminum, bronze and other ferrous metals that stick to the magnetic base. For non-magnetic materials like aluminum, it has optional steel vise. It's ideal for samples of engine blocks, cylinder heads, crankshafts, connecting rods and other parts needing metallographic analysis in laboratory.

The RC-310 magnetic fixation is faster and more practical for ferrous materials - just place the part on table and turn on the magnetic. The optional vise is necessary for non-magnetic materials like aluminum, brass and bronze. The magnetic holds irregular pieces better and allows fixing several small samples at same time. The vise gives more precision in positioning but takes longer to change parts. For laboratory analyzing various metal types, it's worth having both systems.

The process starts by fixing the sample on the RC-310 magnetic table. The 5hp grinding wheel spins at 3,500rpm and gradually descends, removing material from the part surface. The cooling system continuously sprays coolant to prevent heating. The table moves automatically to cover the entire area. The result is a perfectly flat surface with adequate finish for microscopic analysis, revealing the internal structure of the metal.

The RC-310 needs to change the coolant in the 4.0 gal (15L) reservoir regularly to prevent bacteria and rust. The grinding wheel must be dressed when it loses cutting ability or clogs with material. Clean chips from magnetic table after each use and check that no magnetic piece is stuck underneath. The accordion guards on column and vertical spindle must be cleaned to work properly. Lubricate bearings and ways according to manufacturer's guidance.
